“Unreal Estate”: DAY 1

We’re stepping into “Unreal Estate” today!

At 6 pm, we’ll be kicking off the 23rd Krakow Photomonth with a discussion at the International Cultural Centre in Krakow. Together with our distinguished guests, we will discuss Central Europe and its images as a historical community of experience – but also as a space into which competing narratives are once again entering. We will attempt to explore the ambiguous, contradictory memory that characterises our part of the continent, and the figure of the Central European – whose essence and great value may lie in this fluid, heterogeneous identity. We will consider what the works presented as part of the Polish-German main programme say about this space and this figure.

The meeting will be attended by:

Dr Felix Ackermann – Professor of Public History at FernUniversität in Hagen

Joanna Czudec – literary scholar and Germanist, cultural manager and translator of German literature associated with Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation

Dr Anna Kwiatkowska – political scientist and linguist, founder and head of the German Team at The Centre for Eastern Studies

Adam Leszczyński – historian and sociologist, lecturer at SWPS University in Warsaw, Director of Narutowicz Institute

The debate will be moderated by Bartosz Sadulski – editor-in-chief of Heritoo magazine, published by the International Cultural Centre.

After the debate, we invite you to the Potocki Palace Gallery, where at 8.00 pm we will be opening the main programme exhibition, „Uwarstwienia / Shifting Strata”.

See you on the festival trail!
